Arden J. Curry II

John Curry has practiced with Pauley Curry, PLLC and its predecessor firm, Pauley, Curry, Sturgeon and Vanderford, PLLC, for 39 years. He is one of the preeminent trial lawyers in West Virginia and Eastern Kentucky. Respected by colleagues and Judges alike, he concentrates his practice in litigation involving medical malpractice in West Virginia and eastern Kentucky. He is also a sought after mediator to assist in resolving medical malpractice cases.

John graduated from West Virginia University magna cum laude with a B.S. in 1977. He received his law degree from West Virginia University College of Law in 1980 while graduating Order of the Coif. He has been admitted to the West Virginia Bar since 1980. During his career, John has served as General Counsel for the West Virginia Department of Agriculture and has served as counsel for the Charleston Fireman’s Civil Service Commission. John has received the Martindale Hubbell 2019 Client Championship Award, which is given to attorneys who excel at service as affirmed by their clients. In 2017, John was admitted to the American College of Trial Lawyers, one of the premier legal associations in North America. He was listed for sixteen years in The Best Lawyers in America from 1999 – 2016 and was also recognized as one of “West Virginia’s Top Lawyers in America” by the State Journal. John was recognized in West Virginia Super Lawyers 2021 in the area of Personal Injury Medical Malpractice: Plaintiff.  He is one of 11 lawyers in the State of West Virginia to receive that recognition. John was selected as American Trial Lawyers Association Top 100 trial lawyers. He is also a member of the Million Dollar Advocates Forum, and the Multi-Million Dollar Advocates Forum. John was named the Best Lawyers’ 2013 Charleston, WV Arbitration ‘Lawyer of the Year’. Only a single lawyer in each practice area in each community is being honored as the ‘Lawyer of the Year’. He is a platinum member of Elite Lawyers of America.

In 2016, John was given the Top 10 Attorney Award for the state of West Virginia by the National Academy of Personal Injury Attorneys. John was also selected by his peers for inclusion in the 20th Edition of the Best Lawyers in America in the practice areas of Arbitration, Bet-the Company Litigation, Commercial Litigation and Mediation. Selection to Best Lawyers is based on an exhaustive and rigorous peer review survey comprised of more than three million confidential evaluations by top attorneys. The American Society of Personal Injury Attorneys selected John as one of the “10 Best” personal injury attorneys for client satisfaction in West Virginia. In 2014, John was selected as a Charter Member of Trial Masters, which recognizes attorneys with significant trial experience.

He is a member of the Kanawha County and West Virginia Bar Associations. He is admitted to practice law in the state courts of West Virginia and Kentucky, the Northern and Southern District Courts of West Virginia and the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals. He has appeared before the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals as well as the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals.

John is married with two children and lives in Charleston.
